I am an Indian hockey lover and fan. My wish is for India to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics hockey competition.

Hope the Indian team reviews the performance of the Great Britain team in their tour of South Africa.

The Indian team needs to watch out for rough and bad umpiring in the Olympic Qualifier in Chile, particularly in the deciding match against Great Britain. Please insist of getting fair umpires for this crucial match.

Dear hockey loving friends in India,

Let's go on a publicity blitz, urging our kids in India to take up the sport of hockey. On my part, I have been sharing FIH promotional videos with as many of my contacts as possible. I am introducing my own kid girl to the game, and trying to open a small club for kids. Where will funds for even a natural turf ground come from? Heaven knows.

We have a good team, filled with young stars, for the Olympic Qualifiers in Santiago. There will be tremendous pressure in the matches, and in order to break this, all forwards must play as a team and keep man-to-man defense. We should keep one drag flicker on the field at any given time. I am very happy that we have two drag flickers in the team.

I wish to see both the Indian men and Indian women's teams qualify for the 2008 Olympics. This will be my 5th Olympics, and I don't want to miss it in the world! Good luck to all the players in the Indian team! Jai Hind.

I am Waqar Rohila, CEO of eScript Online Inc. I represented Jiwaji University (Gwalior) hockey team in the West Zone and All-India Inter-University held in Amritsar, Punjab, in 1996-97.

Currently I am a trainee hockey umpire, under the expert guidance of FIH umpires Satinder Sharma and G. S. Sangha. I am also registered with Hockey Austalia, Umpire Coaching, Hockey Ed.

Like all other Indians, I have always wished well for Indian hockey. I feel that India now has the required infrastructure to have a full-fledged hockey league. Now is the time when we must invest in the game of hockey and try and achieve world-class standards.

This venture would require the full cooperation of the print media, television channels, top corporate houses, IHF, Sports Ministry and all other stake holders in Indian hockey, including the players, officials and fans.

Long live Hockey, Long live India.

Hockey teams must be formed in the schools and colleges of India, and earlier right from the sub junior levels. Involvement in the sport by the young boys and girls should be facilitated by providing them the infrastructure in schools. The present school environments have minimal space for sports grounds.

The government must put conditions on private schools to have sports (especially hockey) on the agenda, in addition to academics. The blend of sports and education will be good for the health of the students. Once the involvement is there at the school level itself, then you can get budding players and also a broad base of fans of the game. Then you can launch the game commercially also!

I would like to see our hockey team be as great as the teams in the past (teams from the 1930s to 1980s), using Dhyan Chand 'The Dada of Indian hockey' for inspiration. Best of luck to the Indian hockey team for the 2008 Olympics.

No, the players and the coach are not to be blamed for the national disaster of failing to qualify for the Olympics. Each and every one of us Indians have failed the team. We have neglected the game that has given us 9 world titles. What more success is necessary to prove your worth?

Our hockey players have given us far more than our cricketers have. In return, we have betrayed them and stabbed them in their backs. Blinded by the money in cricket, we have starved the game of hockey to death. Is it not a shame that we do not recognise Leslie Claudius and Ashok Kumar, but go ga ga over Sourav and Sachin?

Money is necessary, but it is not a substitute for a burning desire to succeed. Marketing alone is not enough. Let us struggle and work hard. Money will follow.

Let every Indian with a conscience vow to do whatever he or she can for hockey. Not all of us can influence national policy decisions, niether can we bring money into hockey, but we can teach our kids the game.

I am teaching my only child, a daughter aged nine, the game of hockey. I have brought in other children into it. I am forming a small hockey club for youngsters. I appeal to all of you who read this message to do the same. I vow to continue this to the last day of my life. Let us promise we will not let the game die in the land of the great Dhyan Chand.

Why were players like Sandeep Singh, Gagan Ajit Singh, Deepak Thakur, Hamza Mujtaba and Len Ayyappa dropped from the Indian team. Gill has no answer to that. He claims that they were not fit. Can anybody ask this nearly blind man whether he is fit enough to hold the post he is holding autocratically for the last 14 years.

In this year's PHL, Sandeep Singh was the top scorer; then why he was dropped from the Olympic Qualifier team? Gill has no answer because he can't see more than 5 meters. Gill blindly believes whatever Jyothikumaran and some of his personal security staff say.

Most of the people know that when Gill was the DGP of Punjab Police, he solved the militancy problem. But in fact he killed lots of innocent farmers and showed them as militants. Gill has done the same to hockey. He ignored and dropped the best players who should have been in the Indian team. Instead, he took a team selected by Jyothi and his personal staff. All team selection is based on under-the-table deals.

This was mentioned by Mr. Batra, ex-Vice president of IHF, in his television interview. The most shameful words came from the Indian sports minister. He said that the Ministry can't do anything regarding the Federation. So, does that mean that the Federation can put the name and honor of the country at risk and damage the pride and glory in this game?

If Gill has done some thing that affected the seats of the ministers, they would have come with a plan to cut off the hands of Gill. But this is hockey; that's why nobody is interested in looking into this debacle.

Shame to Mani Shankar Aiyar, K. P. S. Gill, Jyothikumaran, Carvalho and all the IHF officials. All these need to be kicked out immediately and a new panel of ex-players and coaches like Jagbir Singh, Mohammad Shaheed, Dhanraj Pillay, Zafar Iqbal, M. K. Kaushik, Ashish Balal, etc. should be formed to save Indian hockey.

The blackest day in Indian Hockey! The Indian hockey fans want heads to roll and coaches and captains to grovel.

It is indeed sad that we lost the last match. We - the fans, the coach and the players imposed on us by Adminstrators with rigid moustaches and background of anti terrorism.

We are the least sporting country in this world. We are ranked 150+ in the most common game played in the world - Football. Olympics is a mirage for this nation of a billion-plus people. Except Cricket - the game that is played by seven good teams and a few more out of 160 nations. We beat our chest blue when cricketers win something. A few thousand crores are nothing for this great game, other games can wait.

Nobody plays hockey in the elite schools and metros now. It is played in moffussil towns. Players get selected in the national team after third class travel around the country using concessional passes. Stadiums and astro turf - what are those?

As the rigid moustache and his team of anti-terror experts drive the hockey wagon from one disaster to another, we hardly care. Do we ask our children about games being played in the school? Fewer schools have fewer experts who can weave magic with a hockey stick in front of impressionable lads and lasses; students waste the games period with aimless loitering or playing. Nothing substantial is achieved in the thousands of school grounds. We are producing an assembly line of robots with good marks but no passion for actual sports for self developement.

Yeh to besharmi ki inteha ho gayi. On day one, Carvalho offered his resignation, and on day two, Carvalho says he can rethink on his decision if the IHF asks him to.

The IHF gave Carvalho full freedom with the team, so he is the main person to be blamed.

Now coach Carvalho has started blaming the umpires. How is it that when a defender/drag flicker gets injured, he gets replaced by a striker (Roshan Minz) instead of by another drag flicker (Sandeep Singh)? My dear coach, please do not provoke the umpires; at least let other Indian teams play in the future at international level.

What a joke - 11 months are not enough to beat a lower-ranked British team.

Joaquim Carvalho is the main culprit in the Indian debacle at Santiago. It was sheer foolishness that Carvalho did not include Sandeep Singh in the squad. Also, Carvalho did not play our best goalkeeper Bharat Chetri in the final against Britain.

Sandeep Singh can do slap shots on free hits, sloth hits out of the D, drag flick on PCs and rush to defend PCs - these 4 qualities of Sandeep Singh maks him a key player.

Blind Carvalho ignore a drag flick specialist like Sandeep Singh, for which the nation paid a heavy price. Hang Carvalho.

Within the last 11 months, you have earned lots and lots of money, without doing any thing positive to Indian hockey. It will be good if you leave hockey gracefully, otherwise you will lost the respect of even the players.

I am from Gwalior, birthplace of the Indian hockey legend, Captain Roop Singh, and also 1975 World Cup player Shivaji Pawar. I like and love hockey because it's our national game. I have listened to and read about many hockey legends, like Dada Dhyan Chand, Captain Roop Singh, K. D. Singh Babu, B. P. Govinda, Michael Kindo, Leslie Claudius, Shankar Lakshman, Mohammad Shaheed, Zafar Iqbal, Thoiba Singh, Rajender Singh (Jr.), Mukesh Kumar, Dhanraj Pillay and many others.

But except for Dhanraj and Mukesh Kumar, I have never ever seen these legends in action. It's my request that if you have any video footage of these players winning glory for our nation, please include in this website.

I am looking for videos of our golden moments from the 1936 Berlin Olympics, 1964 Tokyo Olympics, 1966 Asian Games, 1975 World Cup, 1980 Moscow Olympics, our Asia Cup victories where we beat Pakistan, and also the 1982 Asiad Final (to see where the Indian players went wrong).

Apart from these videos, please include some pictures where these legends are in action.

We are looking for volunteers with special knowledge of the individual cities they live in. It does not have to be a school that is good in hockey, as long as they are training youngsters. Please correspond with me on my email address if you are interested.

How about starting a nationwide movement on the lines of "Hook2Hockey" in Australia? Name it the way you like it, e.g., "Back2Hockey". Lets approach Olympians to initiate it.

We can have some hockey teams visit 4-5 centres a month, play exhibition matches, present kids with hockey sticks, balls, shin guards, etc, form new hockey clubs and provide them with rule books.

We can concentrate on the urban communities to begin with, and later fan out into the villages. We can get more natural turf grounds prepared, since astro turfs are a pipedream.

The expenditure, of course, will be collossal. Why don't all of us in BharatiyaHockey.org start raising funds and take the initiative? Shall we approach sponsors? or the IHF? or the FIH?

Readers, how do you like the idea? Please contact and exchange views on this topic. Come on, like minded people, let's do something.

Mittal's Champions Trust, created by Mr L. N. Mittal, is eager to promote sports in India. The trust has already started sponsoring deserving sportspersons in squash, badminton, etc.

Besides the Sahara Group, Indian hockey has no sponsors. Mittal's Champions Trust is ready to sponsor hockey in India if they receive a specific proposal from a sports body, or affiliate, or someone involved with the game of hockey.

I appeal to hockey lovers and ex-Olympians to approach the Mittal Champions Trust with a specific proposal for sponsoring hockey at the grassroots level (which is currently ignored), and by making hockey a promising and rewarding career for our youngsters.

Hockey is our national game and no doubt it is a great sport, but it is slowly losing its charm in India. But I am sure the situation will improve and all Indians will once again start cheering and supporting the sport of hockey. Chak de India!

Congratulations to our boys and coach Bansal for winning the Jr. Asia Cup. We were down 0-2 till the 52nd minute. It was big pressure for the home team. However, Diwakar Ram converted two penalty corners before the end of regulation time to tie th game. Congratulations to Sunil for scoring the victory goal.

Hockey's journey in Olympics started in 1908, 100 years ago. It is ironical that in these 100 years, Indian hockey fell from zenith to nadir. So much so that the doors of Beijing got shut for Indian hockey.

It is sheer coincidence that so many Sikhs contributed to the glorious phase of India's hockey, but it took just one of our very own (Gill saab) to put the last nail in the coffin of Indian hockey.

I am writing a small book on Hockey Greats of Sadhar, Ludhiana. Some of them like the late Sardara Singh Sidhu DP and Col. Jaswant Singh have played with Balbir Singh Sr. and Gurcharan Singh Bodhi. Another was Mr. Nirmal Singh Gill, who represented Punjab University in Inter-University hockey in Nagpur.

Where can I get more information about these players? Can I obtain some photographs of that time?

I would like to purchase a copy of Goal, the hockey wizard Dhyan chand's autobiography for my husband, who is a hockey enthusiast. Is there any way the organisation could help me purchase the same?

I appreciate the effort the group is making in aiding the flailing condition of the national sport, and would like to see my son grow up to love the game. I would also like to know if I could help you in any which way i can.

Warm regards,
Anjita
